Dancing queen Helen Anne Richardson , more commonly known as Helen turns 82 on 21st November. During her 30 years long career, Helen swayed the audience with her famous dance moves. She was the first who introduced 'Cabaret' in Bollywood. Her songs had made fans go mad back in the 50s and 60s , some of them are very famous even today like' piya tu ab to aaja',' is duniya main jeena',' o haseena jhulfon wali' ,' haye mere paas' and many more. But much before she made a career in Bollywood, life has not been easy for the actress.Lets take a look at Helen ji's journey.
Early Life And Background
Born on 21 November 1938 in Rangoon, Burma to an Anglo Indian father and a Burmese mother .Her father died during World War II . The family then come to Bombay in 1943 in order to escape form the Japanese occupation of Burma. In a documentary called Queen of the Nautch girls, Helen said she was 19 years old in 1957 when she got her first big break in Howrah Bridge.
Career
She featured in many films as a chorus dancer as well as solo dancer namely shabistan , awaara , alif laila, hoor-e-arab, mayurpankh , howrah bridge .Officially retired in 1983 , but has appeared in guest roles in Khamoshi and hum dil de chuke sanam etc.
